Job Description

Insight Global partners with a large local utility company and is looking for an Associate System Protection Engineer to support electric distribution and transmission operations. This is an entry-level protection engineering role responsible for executing routine protection duties under close supervision from senior engineers and peers.

This position supports the Electric Engineering team, which is responsible for delivering safe and reliable electric service through system protection engineering, planning, maintenance, construction, asset management, restoration, and emergency response. The Associate System Protection Engineer will assist with protection engineering functions including issuing protection requirements, performing studies, developing relay settings, supporting installation and commissioning activities, and assisting with relay operation investigations.

This role is represented by Engineers and Scientists of California (ESC) and is subject to collective bargaining. The position requires fundamental training, direction, and review of work, making it a strong opportunity for candidates with a background in electrical engineering who are looking to grow within power system protection.

Required Skills & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution.
Desired:
• Knowledge of power system protection principles and relay fundamentals.
• Basic understanding of short-circuit analysis and fault calculations.
• Familiarity with protection tools such as ASPEN, CAPE, or PSLF is a plus.
• Ability to analyze data, troubleshoot issues, and support engineering problem solving.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
