Job Description

The Accounting Supervisor is the primary operational lead for the Accounting department, reporting to the Accounting Manager. This role oversees daily accounting operations, supervises accounting staff, and ensures accuracy, compliance, and efficiency across multiple entities. The Accounting Supervisor maintains internal controls, supports financial reporting and audit readiness, and drives continuous improvement in accounting workflows and systems.
What Success Looks Like
• Month-end and year-end close processes are completed accurately and on schedule.
• Audit preparation is thorough, with clean findings and minimal adjustments.
• Accounting staff are well-trained, cross-trained, and consistently producing accurate work.
• Compliance obligations (garnishments, tax reporting, unemployment insurance) are met without exception.
• Process improvements are identified and implemented, reducing manual effort and error rates.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Daily Operations & Transaction Review
• Review and approve AP vendor bills, journal entries, and bill coding against approved budgets.
• Approve new vendors in the accounting system and new payees in banking system.
• Approve wire templates and initiate interfund transfers in banking system.
• Approve journal entry reclasses and interfund journal entries.
• Review Positive Pay exceptions and determine resolution.
Distribution Processing & Garnishment Compliance
• Oversee preparation and review of journal entries related to distributions, reissues, omissions, and cancellations.
• Review distribution processing, tax summary reporting, and related reissue/omission workflows.
• Review and approve Child Support Garnishment Orders, including yearly closing.
• Review FTB, IRS, EIOW, and multi-state garnishment orders.
• Review garnishment processing related to reissues and distributions.

Required Skills & Experience

Experience:
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
• Strong knowledge of internal controls, audit procedures, and regulatory compliance.
• Experience managing payroll and garnishment compliance.
Education:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field.
Technical & Tool Proficiency:
• Experience with ERP or accounting systems (QuickBooks or NetSuite experience strongly preferred).
• Advanced Excel proficiency.
Preferred:
• Supervisory or team lead experience.
• Current and active CPA credential.
• Experience in film & television, unions, guilds, or fund administration accounting.
