Job Description

Ford Motor Company is seeking a Design Engineer – Body Exterior (Rear Wiper, Backlite) to support the design, development, and launch of rear exterior systems, including rear wiper/washer mechanisms and backlite (rear glass) integration. This role is hands‑on and design‑focused, ideal for a mechanical or electro‑mechanical engineer with experience owning parts from concept through production.
The team is looking for someone who understands mechanisms, glazing interfaces, and manufacturability, and who can work closely with studio, suppliers, and manufacturing to deliver robust, production‑ready solutions.

Required Skills & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in:
○ Mechanical Engineering
○ Electro‑Mechanical Engineering
○ Or equivalent experience
• 2+ years of experience in automotive or related product development
• Experience owning mechanical or exterior systems
• CAD experience required
○ CATIA (V5/V6 / 3DX) strongly preferred
○ NX acceptable with willingness to transition
• Understanding of:
○ Mechanical mechanisms
○ Interfaces and attachments
○ Design for manufacturing and assembly
• Comfortable working cross‑functionally
• Willingness to work onsite in California (preferred)
• PST time zone overlap required

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

• Experience with:
○ Rear wiper or washer systems
○ Glazing or backlite integration
○ Exterior closures or mechanisms
• Knowledge of:
○ GD&T and datum strategy
○ Plastic and metal manufacturing processes
○ DFMEA and validation testing
• Launch or build support experience
Startup or highly hands‑on engineering background
