Insight global is hiring a Consulting Principal Electrical Engineer reports directly to the President. This is a fast‑growing, multi‑market liquid‑fuel‑handling consulting and design firm based in Culver City.
This role holds full responsibility for electrical and controls engineering, including leadership of the electrical discipline and coordination with mechanical, fire protection, construction, and contracts teams nationwide.
This position serves as an authoritative technical leader, making firm‑wide decisions related to engineering standards, staffing, budgeting, and technology/software direction. The role includes daily interaction with company leadership, clients, and internal teams, with high reliance placed on engineering judgment and recommendations. Independent business development is encouraged, with mentorship provided by executive leadership.

Required Skills & Experience
Primary Responsibilities:
Serve as Registered Principal Electrical Engineer and electrical Subject Matter Expert (SME)
Establish and enforce electrical and controls design standards
Provide expert consulting support across design, construction, commissioning, operations, and maintenance
Perform infrastructure and feasibility studies
Set internal design and project specifications
Select, manage, and train internal and contract electrical staff
Develop and manage approved vendor lists
Review and verify design integrity of consultants, contractors, and internal teams
Support commissioning, start‑up, and troubleshooting activities
Key Considerations:
10+ years as a consulting electrical engineer
Ability to register in multiple states
Experience managing staff and sub‑consultants across multiple offices
Proven leadership within petroleum terminal, aviation fuel, or related facilities
Occasional nationwide travel

Preferred & Essential Experience:
Power distribution systems on facilities up to 100 acres
Medium‑ and low‑voltage systems including 13.8kV, 4.16kV, 2.4kV
Utility interfaces, transformers, switchgear, grounding, lightning and short‑circuit studies
Standby and emergency power systems, UPS, and VFDs
PLC, SCADA, distributed controls, and communications
Petroleum storage, load racks, rail, maritime, and aviation fuel systems
Hazardous area classification and cathodic protection
Motors up to 250 HP, MOVs, generators
Business development, proposal writing, sales, and client management
Project management and permitting
