Job Description
The Automation Technician I is responsible for inspecting, testing, adjusting, and repairing new and existing electrical, electronic, mechanical, and pneumatic automation systems. This role supports the diagnosis of electrical and mechanical equipment issues and performs both preventative and corrective maintenance to ensure reliable system operation.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Test, inspect, and calibrate temperature sensors, flow meters, pressure gauges, controllers, indicators, and other control devices to verify accuracy and proper operation.
Read, interpret, and identify components shown on controls and system drawings.
Identify mechanical equipment on drawings, including chillers, boilers, pumps, air handling units (AHUs), fan coil units (FCUs), variable air volume boxes (VAVs), and exhaust fans (EFs).
Demonstrate understanding of basic electrical control circuits, including 24VAC power and controller input/output signals.
Apply a foundational understanding of controls networking concepts.
Display working knowledge of controls hardware and field devices.
Implement system graphics in accordance with project scope and requirements.
Replace defective wiring, tubing, and related components as needed.
Document calibrations performed, parts and materials used, and maintain records of inventory on hand.
Prepare schematics, sketches, and reports to document system changes or modifications for accurate as‑built drawings.
Monitor system performance and identify potential issues using computer workstations and on‑site observations.
Coordinate with installation and maintenance team members to support system installations, repairs, and modifications.
Schedule equipment run times as requested and generate system reports, including trends and historical data.

Required Skills & Experience
• Knowledge of mechanical systems
• Engineering skills required include knowledge of electronics, mechanics, hydraulics, pneumatics and computer programming.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience with control system architecture design, programing or maintenance desired.
• Good computer skills, understanding of controls networking.
• Must possess valid driver’s license and meet MVR requirements to operate company vehicle.
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (preferably Electrical or Mechanical) or equivalent field experience.
