Job Description
The Lead Java Developer will provide technical leadership and hands‑on development for Walmart International’s Price Engine initiative, a multi‑phase program transforming how pricing is executed across stores and digital channels.
This role owns backend design, integration strategy, and delivery execution as legacy SMART pricing is migrated to a near real‑time, cloud‑native Price Engine platform. The Lead Developer will guide engineering teams through SMART coexistence, audit parity, pilot rollouts, and scaled international deployments, while ensuring platform stability, performance, and correctness.

Required Skills & Experience
Technical Leadership & Development
• 10+ years of backend development experience
• 3+ years in a technical lead or senior lead role
• Expert‑level Java and Spring Boot
• Strong experience building cloud‑native systems on Azure
• Hands‑on experience with Azure SQL
• Deep experience with Kafka and event‑driven architectures
System & Integration Expertise
• Proven experience modernizing or integrating legacy platforms with cloud‑native systems
• Experience with SOAP and REST APIs
• Strong understanding of real‑time, high‑volume transactional systems
• Experience supporting multi‑market or multi‑tenant platforms
Delivery & Collaboration
• Experience leading teams through UAT, pilots, Hypercare, and production rollouts
• Strong debugging, RCA, and incident management skills
• Excellent communication with technical and non‑technical stakeholders
• Experience working in large enterprise transformation programs
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
• Retail, pricing, or merchandising domain experience
• Familiarity with Walmart systems (SMART, Price Engine, SWORD, PriceRT)
• Experience with international pricing, tax‑inclusive pricing, or regional compliance rules
• Exposure to Digital Shelf Label (DSL) workflows
