Job Description

The Heavy Diesel Equipment Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing specialized railway track maintenance and construction equipment. The equipment serviced in this role integrates heavy diesel engines, hydraulic systems, mechanical drivetrains, electrical controls, and structural components on purpose‑built rail platforms designed for demanding, continuous operation.

This role is minimum on site 4 days a week in Chesapeake VA. Work schedule is 4 x 10 hours days with option overtime on Fridays when work load allows.

Compensation: $28/hr-$35/hr. Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including skills, experience, and education.

Required Skills & Experience

• 5+ years of experience as a heavy diesel equipment mechanic
• Diagnose, maintain, and repair heavy diesel engines, power units, and drivetrain systems
• Troubleshoot and service hydraulic systems, including pumps, valves, motors, cylinders, and hoses
• Repair and maintain mechanical assemblies, including gearboxes, bearings, braking systems, conveyors, and structural components
• Diagnose and repair electrical and electronic systems, including engine controls, sensors, wiring, and system interfaces
• Perform preventive maintenance inspections to ensure equipment reliability, safety, and operational readiness
• Read and interpret technical manuals, hydraulic schematics, electrical diagrams, and service documentation
• Collaborate with operators, engineers, and service teams to identify and resolve equipment issues
