This Transportation Engineer role focuses on traffic engineering, analysis, and safety studies for roadway projects across Michigan. You’ll develop signal designs, signing and pavement marking plans, and maintenance of traffic (MOT) strategies, using tools like Synchro, VISSIM, and SIDRA to model and analyze traffic flow. The role involves close collaboration with roadway design teams and project managers to integrate traffic solutions into MDOT projects. You’ll also review plans and deliverables to ensure they meet quality standards, while preparing reports, cost estimates, and project schedules. In addition, you’ll support field reviews and construction-phase traffic needs, helping ensure projects are implemented safely and effectively. This position offers the opportunity to grow into a subject matter expert, delivering clear, data-driven solutions that improve road safety and traffic efficiency.
Day to Day:
• Perform traffic engineering studies and analysis to evaluate roadway performance, safety, and traffic flow
• Design traffic signals, signing and pavement markings, and maintenance of traffic (MOT) plans for MDOT projects
• Use tools like Synchro, SimTraffic, VISSIM, or SIDRA to model traffic conditions and support design decisions
• Collaborate with roadway engineers and project managers to integrate traffic solutions into overall project plans
• Review plans, reports, and deliverables to ensure they meet quality standards and Michigan requirements
Support field reviews, construction-phase traffic needs, and prepare reports, cost estimates, and client updates

Required Skills & Experience
Must Haves:
Bachelors in Civil Engineering
5-10 years of experience in roadway / transportation engineering
Experience with Open Roads, AutoCAD or Civil3D
Experience utilizing traffic software such as Synchro/SimTraffic, SIDRA, VISSIM, or RODEL
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
Plusses:
PE (professional engineer license)
Project Management experience
