Job Description
The Senior Backend Engineer will play a critical role in Walmart International’s Price Engine transformation, a multi‑phase initiative replacing legacy SMART pricing with a near real‑time, cloud‑native pricing platform.
This role is hands‑on and cross‑functional, spanning backend development, event‑driven integration, audit parity, pilot support, and production rollouts. Engineers in this role must be comfortable working across Java services, Kafka pipelines, Azure cloud infrastructure, pricing rules, and store‑level validation, supporting the full lifecycle from development through Hypercare.

Required Skills & Experience
Technical Skills-
• 7+ years of backend development experience
• Strong proficiency in Java and Spring Boot
• Hands‑on experience with Kafka and event‑driven architectures
• Experience building cloud‑native systems (Azure preferred)
• Strong experience with Azure SQL and relational data modeling
• Experience integrating legacy systems with modern cloud platforms
System & Delivery Experience-
• Experience supporting high‑volume, real‑time transactional systems
• Strong debugging, root‑cause analysis, and production support skills
• Experience supporting UAT, pilots, and production rollouts
• Comfortable working across development, testing, and operational phases
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
• Retail, pricing, or merchandising domain experience
• Familiarity with SMART, Price Engine, or Walmart retail systems
• Experience with Digital Shelf Labels (DSL)
• Exposure to international pricing, tax rules, or multi‑market systems
