Job Description

An employer is looking for a Patient Account Rep in the Self Pay department. This person will assist patients with their self-pay medical bills, handling inquiries, processing payments, and managing outstanding balances. They also work to resolve any issues related to billing and collections. This individual will also be doing back office work, reviewing accounts, doing audits, assist with processing financial assistance applications, and jump on the phone queue when calls are high.

• Billing and Payment Processing:
○ Processing patient payments, including co-pays, deductibles, and self-pay balances.
○ Ensuring accurate posting of payments to patient accounts.
○ Working with patients to set up payment plans or negotiate repayment options.
• Patient Communication and Support:
○ Answering patient inquiries about their bills, including questions about charges, balances, and payment options.
○ Explaining billing policies and procedures to patients.
○ Providing excellent customer service and addressing patient concerns in a timely and professional manner.
• Collection and Account Management:
○ Identifying and addressing outstanding balances.
○ Contacting patients to inform them of overdue balances and offer solutions.
○ Working with patients to resolve collection issues and facilitate payment.
○ Negotiating settlements and payment plans with patients.
• Record Keeping and Data Entry:
○ Maintaining accurate records of patient accounts, including payments, balances, and communication logs.
○ Entering and updating patient information and billing data in the healthcare system.
• Compliance and Professionalism:
○ Adhering to HIPAA regulations and other relevant privacy and compliance standards.
○ Maintaining a professional demeanor and providing excellent customer service.

Required Skills & Experience

- 3+ years experience as a Patient Account Representative.
- Experience in insurance or self pay.
- HS Diploma or GED
- Excel proficiency

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

- Experience in Cerner or Paropresumptive
