Job Description

Willdan is seeking a Residential Energy Engineer to support residential energy efficiency programs through home energy assessments, building performance testing, and utility incentive administration. This role will identify energy-saving opportunities related to HVAC systems, windows, insulation, and air sealing, while ensuring assessment quality through the review of subcontractor work. The engineer will perform and oversee diagnostic testing, including blower door testing, manage program documentation and data entry, and collaborate with utilities, homeowners, and contractors to improve residential energy performance. This is primarily an office-based position with approximately 10–15% travel for site visits and field assessments.

Required Skills & Experience

3–4+ years of experience performing residential energy audits, home performance assessments, or energy efficiency evaluations.
Minimum of 1 year of experience working with BPI (Building Performance Institute) standards and methodologies.
BPI Certification preferred; candidates with an Engineering degree and strong knowledge of BPI practices are also eligible and can obtain certification through Willdan.
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field.
Experience performing residential diagnostic testing, including lower door testing and other home performance assessments.
Knowledge of residential building systems, including HVAC, windows, insulation, air sealing, and overall energy efficiency measures.
Ability to manage assessment documentation, data entry, and program administration activities.
Experience reviewing and validating contractor or subcontractor work.

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

Experience administering utility incentive, rebate, or energy efficiency programs.
Familiarity with utility program requirements and customer incentive processing.
Knowledge of residential energy efficiency best practices and home performance improvements.
Understanding of ASHRAE standards and commercial energy efficiency concepts.
Experience coordinating with subcontractors and reviewing field assessment results.
Strong administrative and reporting skills within energy efficiency or utility program environments.
