Job Description

Patient Financial Counselor role in Nashville.
This is a high-impact, patient-facing role in an oncology setting, so personality and emotional intelligence are just as important as experience.
What They’re Looking For
3+ years in financial counseling / patient access / insurance verification
Strong background in eligibility, benefits, and authorizations (including drugs)
Experience walking patients through cost breakdowns, payment plans, and coverage gaps
Knowledge of CPT/HCPCS coding
Comfortable working in a clinical/oncology environment
Strong customer service, with the ability to be both empathetic and firm
Quick learner, detail-oriented, and able to multitask/adapt to change
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
Educate patients on insurance coverage, co-pays, deductibles, and out-of-pocket costs
Walk patients through what is and is not covered under clinical trials
~70–75% of patients are on trials (often last-line treatment)
Help set up payment plans and guide patients through financial assistance programs
Including programs for free/assisted drug access
Verify insurance and maintain accurate eligibility and demographic information
Handle pre-authorizations and referrals, including drug authorizations
Partner closely with nursing staff, providers, and financial aid organizations
Occasionally assist with drug ordering coordination
Review patient balances and ensure accurate co-pay collection
Work through difficult situations, including supporting patients during end-of-life care scenarios
Environment & Culture
Heavy collaboration with internal team (notably this person’s leader)
Requires ability to compartmentalize and have tough conversations with patients

Logistics
Schedule: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
Hybrid: ~50% remote / 50% onsite
Fully onsite during first few months of training
Training: ~3 months (shadowing begins within first few days)
Must be able to ramp up quickly and handle workload early on
Comp
$23–25/hr
Direct hire + full benefits
