The Information System Security Officer (ISSO) is responsible for maintaining the security posture of an information system. This role involves:
Collaborating with the Information System Security Manager (ISSM) and Information System Owner (ISO).
Managing day-to-day security operations, including physical and environmental protection, personnel security, incident handling, and security training.
Developing and updating authorization documentation and implementing configuration management.
Supporting Special Access Programs (SAPs) and providing daily support for Collateral, Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI), and SAP activities.
Key duties include:
Assisting the ISSM.
Preparing and updating authorization packages.
Ensuring procedures for clearing, sanitizing, and destroying hardware and media.
Conducting periodic reviews and monitoring system recovery processes.
Keeping security documentation current and accessible.
Collecting and reviewing audit records.
Attending relevant technical and security training.
Identifying and mitigating cybersecurity vulnerabilities.
Preparing security status reports.
Performing security impact analysis for configuration changes.
