Job Description

Insight Global is looking for a highly skilled and experienced Senior Engineer to join the P&C Standards team of one of their largest utility clients. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in IEC61850 design, implementation, and standardization particularly in transmission and distribution substations. Additionally, the candidate should have a strong background in relay protection and controls. The selected candidate should have a deep understanding of electrical engineering principles, the ability to lead complex projects and the comfortability of commuting onsite to Manhattan 3 days a week.
The Senior Engineer will lead the design and implementation of standard IEC61850 systems for transmission and distribution substations, ensuring system reliability and safety through the development and execution of relay protection and control schemes. They will collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate IEC61850 systems with existing infrastructure, conduct technical reviews, and provide guidance on IEC61850 standards and best practices. Additionally, the engineer will work effectively with third-party vendors to test and validate network requirements, and prepare and review technical documentation, including design specifications, switch configurations, VLAN requirements, SCD files, training materials, test plans, and reports. Mentoring and providing technical support to junior engineers and other team members will also be a key part of their role.

Required Skills & Experience

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field. A Master's degree is preferred.
8+ years of experience in electrical engineering with a focus on IEC61850 design and implementation.
Extensive experience in transmission and distribution substation projects.
Proficiency in relay protection and control systems.
Strong knowledge of IEC61850 standards and protocols.

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

Experience with fiber-optic network communications in substations.
Familiarity with GOOSE messaging and other IEC61850 communication protocols.
Proficiency with and SEL software (acSELerator Quickset and Architect).
Proficiency with Hitachi software (PCM600 and IET600). Preferred.
