A Research institute specializing in Aviation is looking for a Structural/Stress Engineer to play a crucial role in the custom internal and external modification of Fixed Wing Aircraft (C130 and G5) for use in scientific research. The Engineer will collaborate with other engineering disciplines including DERs to substantiate modifications and obtain STCs, using data from FEA/FEM analysis and Hand Calculations for static and dynamic loads (load criteria, emergency landing conditions, in-flight lift, drag forces, and gust loads). Modifications may include pods, inlets, apertures, and optical windows. Other responsibilities may include aiding in the designing and certifying of instrumentation, rack configurations, and aircraft modifications to meet various load and emergency conditions. It also involves preparing and approving certification documents, ensuring installations meet airworthiness standards, and assisting in acquiring FAA certification documents. Additionally, the role includes planning for future aircraft system improvements and participating in related activities such as safety management and aircraft operations. The Engineer will need to be skilled with effective collaboration across engineering disciplines, project planning, flight operations, and geophysical research to resolve issues related to schedule, cost, and performance.
While this is set out to be a 6 month contract, this is a great way to get your foot in the door with an institute that will be opening a full time employment slot in 6 months' time.
