Job Description

A utilities client in the Houston area is looking for a Materials Management Specialist to join their team. This team supports the electric organization at the client and is responsible for all materials management for low to medium voltage equipment. The Materials Management Specialist is responsible for the development, implementation, and management of companywide supply chain inventory strategies for assigned commodities, consistent with Corporate and Departmental policies and procedures. They lead all aspects of planning, monitoring and delivery of inventory material utilized in the Supply Chain; monitor material usage, future requirements, and key supplier relationships in conjunction with Procurement; is aware of market and industry trends/conditions, market pricing, quality and delivery requirements, and other factors in the performance of duties. The Materials Management Specialist is required to interface with Vendors (sales/project management personnel), internal clients (users), auditors, Procurement, etc. to achieve total overall value to the Company; thus, must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently.


• Two main commodities - street lights and poles
o Need to have sense of urgency
o In a storm event we would need them to report in immediately after - critical
• Communicate with stakeholders (internal)
• Work with ops and logistics and suppliers (external) daily
• Various ways running their signal - order poles within sap, order by request from business units, etc.
• By request of bus units order job specific things
• Work w contractors (ops team / north Houston pole line)
• See it all the way to the end - resp for completing and paying invoice (COUPA)
• Develop, implement, and manage inventory strategies to support the supply chain process for assigned commodities, or area of responsibilities consistent with corporate and department policies and procedures.
• Research and develop a working knowledge of the assigned commodities or areas of responsibilities, including how the commodities are manufactured, rendered, specification requirements, and how the commodities are used by the Company
 Research and analyze inventory consumption data, inventory levels, work order requirement(s) signals, outstanding delivery orders, make decisions for ordering, and place orders via contract release or standalone Purchase Orders on an as needed basis.
 Provide recommendations for supply chain process considerations, and/or improvement.
 Ensure quality of sure and stable supply of materials; monitor timeliness of the deliveries/performance and identify patterns.
 Assess and implement various methods of inventory (e.g., consignment or Vendor Managed/Owned Inventory) and requirements forecasting (MRP), in conjunction with Procurement.
 Provide supply planning and analysis; and conduct supplier performance and relationship management.
 Responsible for accurately creating and making changes to material master records in SAP Materials Management Module in accordance with naming standards, audit, and software requirements.
 Work closely with warehouse personnel regarding all aspects of materials management (i.e. stocking levels; jobsite deliveries; new and obsolete material; material changes/project timelines).
 Coordinate with Engineering Standards and Materials on material standardization
 Periodically review materials forecasts against actual demand (used and/or returned materials) and make recommendations or adjustments.
 Communicate forecast of project material requirements and time lines to contracted suppliers.
 Collaborate with Procurement to hold suppliers accountable to contract terms

Required Skills & Experience

Requires a bachelor’s degree in industrial Distribution, Business Administration, Engineering, Supply Chain Management, or other related discipline.
2-4 years direct experience as a Materials Management Specialist, Supply Chain or Contracts
Supply Chain/Inventory Management (Analyst)
Experienced in Excel (pivot table, VLOOKUP)
Experience managing vendor/internal relationships
