Job Description
An industry-leading mechanical construction contractor is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead its engineering and design team in Oak Creek, Wisconsin. This individual will serve as the technical leader of the engineering department, overseeing the successful execution of design-build and design-assist projects while providing strategic direction, mentorship, and operational support to engineering staff.
The Engineering Manager will collaborate closely with project managers, construction leadership, estimating teams, sales teams, architects, consulting engineers, and clients to ensure projects are technically sound, constructible, and aligned with company standards. This role is ideal for a seasoned HVAC mechanical engineering professional with extensive leadership experience and a passion for developing teams, improving processes, and driving successful project outcomes.
• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of design and project engineers through technical guidance, coaching, and professional development initiatives.
• Manage engineering resources, priorities, and project workloads to support business objectives and project schedules.
• Maintain the engineering design calendar and ensure accountability to project milestones and deadlines.
• Establish, document, and continuously improve engineering standards, design procedures, and best practices.
• Oversee and support design-build and design-assist project delivery from concept through construction.
• Conduct design reviews during proposal and pre-bid phases to ensure accuracy, completeness, and constructability.
• Collaborate with project managers and estimating teams to identify and develop value engineering opportunities.
• Partner with construction leadership to ensure alignment between engineering and field operations throughout project execution.
• Evaluate and engage third-party engineering and design firms to supplement internal engineering capacity as needed.
• Ensure seamless project handoffs to operations teams, including complete documentation and project details.
• Provide technical support for business development efforts and effectively communicate design solutions to clients and project stakeholders.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with owners, architects, consulting engineers, subcontractors, and internal teams.
• Support continuing education and training initiatives to keep engineering staff up to date on industry trends, technologies, and code requirements.

Required Skills & Experience
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• 15+ years of mechanical engineering experience with a focus on commercial and industrial HVAC systems.
• 10+ years of engineering leadership, management, or supervisory experience.
• Extensive experience leading Design-Build and Design-Assist mechanical construction projects.
• Strong knowledge of HVAC system design, constructability principles, and mechanical engineering best practices.
• Deep understanding of applicable codes and standards including IMC, ASHRAE, NFPA, and local building codes.
• Experience managing engineering team workloads, project schedules, and technical deliverables.
• Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and HVAC load calculation software.
• Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
• Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced construction environment.
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
• Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• Experience supporting business development efforts, client presentations, and project pursuits.
• Strong understanding of engineering budgets, labor forecasting, resource planning, and project profitability.
• Experience developing engineering standards, procedures, and quality control processes within a construction organization.
