Job Description

An international banking client is looking for a AML Investigator to join the team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day execution and oversight of Transaction Monitoring and Sanctions business-as-usual activities, including alert review governance, investigations, sanctions referrals, reporting, quality control, procedure maintenance, and issue management. The role requires a strong understanding of BSA/AML, OFAC sanctions requirements, transaction monitoring systems, and risk-based decision making within a commercial banking environment.

The individual must be capable of working independently, exercising sound judgment, and supporting the maintenance of a robust and regulator-ready Economic Crime Prevention framework.

Key Responsibilities
Transaction Monitoring
• Perform and oversee reviews of transaction monitoring alerts, investigations, and escalations generated through the Actimize monitoring platform.
• Conduct risk-based analysis of customer activity and document clear investigative rationales.
• Support Requests for Information (RFIs), unusual activity investigations, law enforcement inquiries, and internal escalations.
• Assist with Suspicious Activity Report (SAR) investigations and supporting documentation.
• Monitor workflow queues and ensure adherence to internal service-level agreements and regulatory expectations.
• Support periodic monitoring activities including manual reviews, report-based monitoring, and enhanced review account processes.
Sanctions Compliance
• Review and investigate sanctions screening alerts involving customers, payments, countries, vessels, trade finance transactions, and PEP-related referrals.
• Support customer sanctions risk assessments and associated governance processes.
• Assist with sanctions-related escalations and preparation of supporting materials for management review.
• Maintain awareness of OFAC, UK, EU, and other applicable sanctions developments impacting the business.
Quality Assurance and Governance
• Perform quality control reviews of transaction monitoring and sanctions investigations.
• Identify trends, control weaknesses, and opportunities for process enhancement.
• Assist with maintenance of procedures, desk instructions, and control documentation.
Reporting and Metrics
• Produce monthly and ad-hoc management information and key risk indicators.
• Assist with preparation of materials for governance committees and senior management reporting.
• Track metrics relating to alerts, investigations, SAR activity, sanctions referrals, quality reviews, and control effectiveness.

Required Skills & Experience

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 5–10 years of experience in Transaction Monitoring, AML Investigations, Sanctions Compliance, or Financial Crime Compliance.
• Strong knowledge of:
o Bank Secrecy Act (BSA)
o USA PATRIOT Act
o OFAC regulations
o Suspicious Activity Reporting requirements
o Transaction Monitoring frameworks
• Experience working within a wholesale, commercial or financial institutions environment.
• Experience using transaction monitoring and sanctions screening systems (e.g., Actimize, FircoSoft, Pega or equivalent).
• Prior experience supporting audits, regulatory examinations, or compliance reviews.

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

• CAMS, CGSS, CFCS, or similar professional certification.
• Experience with Actimize Transaction Monitoring.
• Experience with sanctions name screening and payment screening environments.
