Job Description

A client in the electrical construction space specializing in water and wastewater infrastructure is expanding their team and looking to hire an Electrical Estimator. This individual will support Project Managers throughout the full estimating and bid process, including reviewing plans and specifications, performing detailed electrical takeoffs, and developing accurate cost estimates for complex infrastructure projects. The role requires experience in water/wastewater and/or heavy civil construction, process controls, automation, and interpreting P&IDs, one-line diagrams, control schematics, and the ability to collaborate with subcontractors and suppliers to drive competitive and comprehensive bids. The ideal candidate has experience estimating in industrial environments, is comfortable working in design-build settings where scope may evolve, and brings strong technical knowledge of electrical systems including power distribution, controls, and instrumentation.

Duties & Responsibilities Include:
• Assist Project Managers with all phases of the estimating and bid process from initial review through final submission
• Perform detailed electrical takeoffs using project specifications, one-line diagrams, P&IDs, control schematics, and site plans
• Quantify materials and labor for systems including medium/low voltage distribution, MCCs, VFDs, PLCs, instrumentation, and control wiring
• Develop accurate cost estimates including labor productivity factors and material pricing
• Solicit and negotiate pricing from subcontractors and suppliers to build competitive bids
• Evaluate drawings and specifications to ensure complete scope coverage for electrical components
• Identify and account for general and special conditions in project cost estimates
• Support development of project budgets and schedules based on estimate outputs
• Apply productivity factors for complex project conditions such as confined spaces, phased shutdowns, and accelerated timelines
• Build and maintain relationships with general contractors, clients, and vendors throughout the bidding process

Required Skills & Experience

• 5+ years of electrical estimating experience in industrial, infrastructure, or complex construction environments
• Proven experience performing detailed electrical takeoffs from P&IDs, One-line diagrams, Control schematics, etc.
• Strong technical knowledge of power distribution systems, including - Medium/low voltage systems, MCCs, VFDs, panels, switchgear
• Hands-on experience estimating process controls and automation systems, including – PLCs, Instrumentation, Control wiring / I/O
• Experience working in a design-build environment or with incomplete/evolving drawings
• Ability to develop comprehensive cost estimates including labor productivity, materials, and scope coverage
• Experience soliciting and leveling subcontractor/vendor pricing
• Strong understanding of construction sequencing and project execution
• Proficiency with Excel and estimating tools/software

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

• Experience in water/wastewater or heavy civil projects (no longer required, but still relevant)
• Familiarity with McCormick estimating software
• Experience applying productivity factors for - Confined spaces, Phased work / shutdowns, Accelerated schedules
• Background working closely with engineering teams during preconstruction/design phase
• Experience estimating large-scale industrial or process-driven facilities (manufacturing, energy, utilities, etc.)
• Established relationships with electrical subcontractors or controls vendors
• Exposure to instrumentation-heavy or automation-driven environments
