Job Description

Insight Global is currently seeking a Product Engineer to join a leading Energy company located in Houston, TX. The person in this role will act as Technical Engineering Lead on complex/critical hyperscale Data Center Facility components taking full ownership of all engineering activities undertaken by product and discipline engineers.
They will be responsible for the mechanical or electrical scope and systems across the design, construction, assembly, testing, installation and commissioning phases.
They will check and approve drawings/designs, review vendor quotations and provide feedback to the procurement team, prepare and complete various mechanical or electrical engineering deliverable drawings, documents, and calculations, such as:

Electrical: electrical load list, cable sizing / schedule, single line diagrams, earthing protection, lighting studies
Mechanical: equipment lists, piping documentation, system calculations (aligned to mechanical scope where applicable)

Additionally, they will identify and resolve load balancing, capacity planning, and system performance optimization.

Required Skills & Experience

6+ years of experience as an electrical or mechanical engineer

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering

Ability to produce drawings/sketches to illustrate design/ideas in AutoCAD

General knowledge and direct experience with the construction, operation, and maintenance of data centers or electrical/mechanical systems and components

Strong Knowledge in piping and fire suppression system design/experience in piping systems, design, layout, routing, components, and piping specialty items.

Knowledge of industry standards, codes, and regulations, including but not limited to:
AISI – American Iron and Steel institute
ANSI – American National Standards Institute
ASME – American Society of Mechanical Engineers (specifically B&PV Section VIII, IX, B31.3)
ASTM – American Society of Testing and Materials
AWS – American Welding Society
IBC – International Building Code
MFMA – Metal Framing Manufactures Association
MSS – Manufactures Standardization Society (Valves and Fittings Industry)
OSHA – Occupational Safety and Health Administration
NACE – National Association of Corrosion Engineers
NFPA – National Fire Protection Association
PFI – Pipe Fabrication Institute

Experience designing & calculating chillers, cooling towers, direct and indirect evaporative cooling, mechanical control systems, fan systems, acoustics, pumps, vessels, valves, coolers, and other critical mechanical equipment OR Experience with UPS systems, diesel generators, MD & LV switchgears, power distribution units, VFDs, automatic/static transfer switches, electrical control systems, LV rectification systems

understanding of electrical equipment and system design within data center driving or affecting mechanical scope

Any experience with the following software's: ETAP, SolidWorks, Revit, BIM, Navisworks, Dialux, SAP, Inventor, CAESAR II
