Job Description
Insight Global is seeking an experienced Senior Backend Engineer to support a large-scale initiative focused on modernizing and scaling personalized retail experiences across our client’s digital and in-store platforms. This individual will provide hands-on engineering support across backend services, APIs, event-driven integrations, distributed data systems, and cloud-native platforms that support critical retail operations and high-volume transaction workflows. Day-to-day responsibilities include translating technical requirements into scalable backend solutions, building and enhancing Java/Spring Boot microservices, developing REST APIs, supporting Kafka integrations, working with Cassandra data models, participating in testing efforts, supporting Kubernetes deployments, and contributing to production readiness and post-release stabilization. This person will partner closely with Technical Leads, Product, QA, DevOps, Architecture, platform teams, and business stakeholders to resolve blockers, document technical work, support defect remediation, and ensure successful delivery of production-ready backend services. The ideal candidate will have a strong backend engineering background, experience working in complex enterprise environments, and the ability to stay hands-on while supporting projects through design, development, testing, release readiness, and production support.

Required Skills & Experience
- 5+ years of backend development experience with Java and Spring Boot
- Strong experience building and supporting REST APIs, microservices, service contracts, and enterprise backend integrations
- Hands-on Kafka experience, including consumers, producers, topics, schemas, event processing, retries, error handling, and troubleshooting
- Experience with Cassandra or similar distributed NoSQL databases
- Experience working in Kubernetes, containerized environments, CI/CD pipelines, Git-based workflows, and release readiness processes
- Strong testing discipline across unit, integration, contract, functional, regression, performance, and defect remediation testing
- Ability to work in Agile/Scrum environments and communicate clearly around risks, blockers, dependencies, and delivery status
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
- Experience supporting retail, ecommerce, customer-facing, or high-volume enterprise platforms
- Exposure to GCP, BigQuery, cloud data services, caching platforms, monitoring dashboards, alerting, or GitOps practices
- Experience with migration or modernization programs, including production deployment, stabilization, and knowledge transfer
- Experience with performance tuning, service latency analysis, throughput validation, or distributed systems troubleshooting
