Job Description

We are seeking an Expert Data Scientist / Data Engineer with the technical depth and product mindset to develop scalable analytical data products, decision-support tools, and production-grade data pipelines that support wildfire risk analytics, mitigation planning, operational decision-making, and regulatory reporting.
The successful candidate will combine strong data engineering skills, applied data science expertise, geospatial analytics experience, and the ability to translate complex analytical methods into transparent, auditable, and user-friendly tools. This role will work closely with data scientists, data engineers, product partners, business stakeholders, and cross-functional teams to deliver maintainable solutions that improve the quality, consistency, and usability of analytical products.
Key Responsibilities
• Support the development of analytical models, data products, and decision-support tools used for wildfire risk analysis, mitigation planning, and operational decision-making.
• Build, refactor, and enhance data pipelines to be modular, scalable, maintainable, and well-documented.
• Develop curated analytical datasets and calculation logic that enable transparent, traceable, and reproducible analysis.
• Establish and promote best practices for code architecture, version control, documentation, data quality checks, and code management.
• Collaborate closely with a core team of data scientists, machine learning engineers, data engineers, and product partners, as well as a broader team of cross-functional stakeholders.
• Communicate technical methods, assumptions, limitations, and results to non-technical stakeholders to build trust and understanding in analytical methodologies.

Required Skills & Experience

• Strong experience in Python-based code development
• Demonstrated expertise in code architecture, software engineering practices, and maintainable pipeline design, in a cloud-based environment
• Experience working with ML model outputs
• Experience designing production-grade data and ML platforms with strong emphasis on reproducibility, dataset versioning, release traceability, repository governance, and maintainable software architecture.
• Proficiency with version control (Git) and collaborative workflows (e.g., pull requests, code reviews)
• Ability to assess and improve legacy or externally developed codebases
• Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts, assumptions, and limitations to non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience developing data visualizations and dashboards using modern analytics platforms
• Familiarity with PySpark and distributed computing.
• Experience with geospatial analysis, including performing spatial joins, asset-to-location mapping, and map-based visualization.
• Proven ability to coordinate across business, technical, and governance teams to deliver practical tools that support operational decision-making.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with the Palantir Foundry platform
• Experience in utility operations, wildfire risk management, electric distribution or transmission systems, infrastructure planning, asset management, or public safety analytics.
• Familiarity with wildfire mitigation programs, risk model outputs, mitigation effectiveness
• Experience gathering requirements from cross-functional stakeholders and translating business questions into technical solutions.
• Experience with reporting in Foundry or Power BI
