$20 - $25 (hourly estimate)

Job Description

Review and code patient medical records after they are admitted and discharged so the hospital can bill insurance on time. Help with coding outpatient records when needed.
Conduct audits of medical records to make sure they meet healthcare regulations and accreditation standards.
Help the Compliance Officer with projects and reviews requested by internal departments or outside organizations.
Complete audits for Medicare, Medicaid, and other insurance providers to ensure records and billing are accurate.
Train and update coding staff and other hospital employees on coding practices and changes.
Work with physicians to clarify information in patient records so documentation is accurate and complete.
Review updates to billing and procedure lists to ensure the correct medical and billing codes are being used.
Communicate with physicians and medical staff about documentation issues to support accurate coding and billing.
Assist with quality improvement initiatives, special projects, training, and other tasks assigned by the Director of Medical Records

Required Skills & Experience

Requirements:
Coding Certification through AHIMA or AAPC for inpatient or Outpatient coding. (i.e., RHIA, RHIT, CCS, or CCS-P certification) and maintains continuing education requirements.
1-2 Years of ICD-10 and CPT coding experience and clinical knowledge minimally.
Knowledge of regulatory, billing, and other coding guidelines. 4. Thorough knowledge of related prospective payment systems. 5. Auditing skills for coding quality and compliance.

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

Prior inpatient rehab coding, Cerner, and 3M experience preferred but not required
